A Knowledge Base for Non-Traditional Machining Process Selection
Non- traditional machining process selection calls for extensive know-how which deals with a huge amount of knowledge. Hence, automation of knowledge through a knowledge- based system will greatly enhance the decision-making process. This paper describes knowledge -based system developed for identifying the most appropriate Non-traditional machining processes to suit specific circumstances. Here, 20 non-traditional machining processes of industrial importance have been incorporated into the system. In this study, only material type and some of the process capabilities namely surface finish,tolerance,surface damage, corner radii,taper,hole diameter, width of cut, depth to diameter ratio(for cylindrical holes),and depth to width ratio(for blind cavities), are used to determine the best selection among competitive Non-traditional machining processes.

He is intrested in extending his research work in establishing a centre of exellence for hybrid non-traditional machining processes.
